What I do

Five ways I help businesses ship software

Start with a website, grow into a custom web or desktop app, automate the busywork, and keep it all running with a care plan. Pick the entry point that fits where you are now.

Business Websites

Look credible, get found, convert visitors.

A fast, mobile-first website that makes your business look professional and turns visitors into enquiries. Built to load quickly, rank on Google, and stay easy to update.

  • Custom design — no cookie-cutter templates
  • Mobile-first, accessible, fast (90+ Lighthouse)
  • On-page SEO and Google Business setup
  • Contact forms, analytics, and lead capture
  • Copywriting guidance and launch checklist

From

$2,500

Fixed price. Typical turnaround 2–4 weeks.

Desktop Applications

Native apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

When a browser tab isn't enough — software that installs on the desktop, works offline, and reaches the file system, printers, and hardware a website can't. Built once from web tech and shipped to every major platform.

  • Cross-platform from one codebase (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Offline-first — works with no internet
  • Local file, printer, and hardware access
  • Auto-updates and signed, trusted installers
  • Built with Electron / Tauri — fast and maintainable

From

$10,000

Quoted after a discovery sprint. One codebase, every platform.

Custom Software & Automation

Connect your tools and kill the busywork.

The scripts, integrations, and automations that make everything else work together — syncing systems, moving data, generating reports, and removing the repetitive manual jobs eating your team's time.

  • API integrations between the tools you already use
  • Workflow automation and scheduled jobs
  • Data imports, exports, and migrations
  • Custom scripts, CLIs, and internal utilities
  • Reporting and alerts that run themselves

From

$1,500

Scoped per job. Often pays for itself in saved hours.

Digital Marketing

Get found, get traffic, get customers.

A great site only works if people see it. I run the search, ads, content, and email that bring qualified visitors to your business — and turn them into enquiries. Clear reporting, no vanity metrics.

  • SEO — technical fixes, on-page, and local / Google Business
  • Google & Meta ads — set up, managed, and optimized
  • Content and email campaigns that actually convert
  • Conversion tracking with GA4 and plain-English monthly reports
  • Landing pages built to turn clicks into leads

From

$1,000/mo

Monthly retainer, plus ad spend. One-off SEO audits from $1,500.

Care Plans & Retainers

Stay updated, secure, and supported every month.

Software is never 'done'. A monthly care plan keeps your site or app fast, secure, and improving — with priority access to me for fixes, updates, and new features.

  • Hosting, backups, and uptime monitoring
  • Security patches and dependency updates
  • Monthly performance and analytics report
  • A block of development hours for changes
  • Priority support — no per-request quotes

From

$300/mo

Tiered plans. Cancel anytime after the first 3 months.

Legacy desktop software replacement

A wholesaler ran on a 15-year-old Windows program that only worked on a single office PC and was no longer supported by its vendor. I rebuilt it as a modern app the team can use from any device, migrated every record across, and ran the new system alongside the old until they were confident.

Retired a single-point-of-failure system; staff now work from anywhere.

Stuck on old software?

Getting off legacy software, without the risk

Replacing the system your business runs on feels dangerous — which is why so many stay stuck on software that only works on one PC, or that no one supports any more. My process is built to remove that risk.

  1. 1

    Audit & fixed quote

I map what your current system does, where it hurts, and what's worth keeping. You get a fixed-price plan before any build begins — no open-ended bills.

  2. 2

    Build the replacement

A modern web or desktop app that does the job better and works from any device — not trapped on one aging PC. You watch it take shape on a staging link.

  3. 3

    Migrate your data

Every record moves across, checked and verified against the old system. Nothing is left behind and nothing is lost.

  4. 4

    Run in parallel

The new system runs alongside the old one until your team trusts it. No risky big-bang switch, no day where the business can't operate.

  5. 5

    Switch over & support

We retire the old software, I hand over full documentation so you're never locked to one person or machine again, and a care plan keeps it healthy.

How it works

A simple, predictable process

No jargon, no surprises. You always know what's happening, what it costs, and what comes next.

  • 01

    Discovery call

A free 30-minute call to understand your business, your goals, and whether we're a fit. You leave with a clear sense of scope and price — no obligation.

  • 02

    Proposal & plan

A written proposal with fixed pricing, timeline, and deliverables. For larger apps, a short paid discovery sprint nails down the scope before we commit.

  • 03

    Design & build

I build in the open. You see progress on a staging link, give feedback early, and there are no surprises at the end. Regular check-ins keep us aligned.

  • 04

    Launch & support

We launch, I hand over everything you need, and — if you want — I stay on with a care plan to keep things running and growing.

About

Work directly with the person building it

I'm Lab28, a web development & digital marketing based in United States. When you hire me, you get me — not a sales rep, an account manager, and three layers between you and the work.

I care about the things that actually matter to a business: software that loads fast, doesn't break, is easy to change, and earns more than it costs. I'd rather tell you when a feature isn't worth building than pad an invoice.

Whether you need a website that wins more enquiries, a custom app that saves your team hours, or a steady hand keeping things running, I'd like to help.

FAQ

Questions, answered

The things people usually want to know before getting in touch. Got another? Just ask.

How much will my project cost?

It depends on scope, but I work to fixed prices so you know the cost before we start — never an open-ended hourly bill. Websites start at $2,500; custom apps are quoted after a short discovery sprint. The starting prices on each service above will give you a realistic ballpark.

How long does it take?

A business website is typically 2–4 weeks. Apps and software depend on scope and are mapped out in the proposal, with milestones so you always know where things are. Small automation jobs can often be turned around in days.

I'm not technical — is that a problem?

Not at all. Most of my clients run businesses, not software teams. I explain things in plain language, handle the technical decisions, and you only ever need to tell me what you want the software to do.

Do I own the code and the accounts?

Yes — completely. You own the code, the domain, the hosting, and every account. There's no lock-in and nothing held hostage. If you ever want to take it elsewhere, everything is yours and documented.

Can you replace the old software my business runs on?

That's some of my favorite work. I migrate businesses off aging, single-PC, or unsupported software onto modern systems — with your data carried across and the new system running alongside the old one until you trust it. No risky big-bang switch.

What happens after launch?

I hand over everything you need, and you can take it from there or keep me on with a care plan for hosting, updates, security, and ongoing changes. Either way you're not stranded after go-live.

Do you work with clients outside your area?

Yes. I'm based in the US but work with clients anywhere — most of the work happens over email, calls, and a shared staging link, so location rarely matters.
